All Learn Everywhere certificates must be competency-based. This means that you shall award certificates not based on time or participation but on student mastery of a certain set of skills or competencies that you define. For each certificate which you propose to offer, please provide here a list of the competencies that students must master in order to achieve that certificate. Select competencies that describe what students will learn in your certificate program. For a ½-credit certificate, provide 3-5 competencies; for a 1-credit certificate, provide 5-10 competencies. Feel free to model your competencies on the examples given below, which are state-approved competencies drawn from the VLACS curriculum.

Students will demonstrate an understanding of 3D modeling basics and applications by defining basic terminology and uses of 3D modeling, describing the historical development of 3D modeling, explaining 3D modeling techniques, articulating social change corresponding with 3D modeling development, describing current and future applications of 3D modeling and explaining computer components and programming concepts.

Digital Citizenship and Ethics

Students will demonstrate an understanding of digital citizenship and ethics as they relate to 3D modeling by explaining digital citizenship responsibilities, plagiarism, and emerging technologies and describing copyright dynamics, applications, and violations.

3D Modeling Environments in Blender

Students will demonstrate an understanding of 3D modeling environments in Blender by utilizing Blender, comparing various 3D modeling techniques, and explaining and using 3D objects, digital tools and resources.

Visual Elements

Students will demonstrate an understanding of 3D modeling visual elements by explaining the process of visualization, identifying and applying related technical concepts, articulating the effects of light and perspective, and describing the implementation of visual simulation.

Light and Shade

Students will demonstrate an understanding of light and shade in 3D modeling by explaining the basics of lighting and shading, describing and utilizing lighting techniques and applications, and using lighting commands in Blender.

3D Geometrics

Students will demonstrate an understanding of 3D geometrics by using Blender geometric navigation and design, and applying transforms and modifiers to 3D objects.

Texturing and Rendering

Students will demonstrate an understanding of texturing and rendering by explaining the technical concepts of texture and rendering, applying texture and render in Blender, analyzing and utilizing camera and light for effective render, and creating a 3D scene.

Careers and Applications of 3D Modeling

Students will demonstrate an understanding of careers and applications of 3D modeling by identifying the use of 3D models in various industries and the real-world, using modeling techniques to create an environmental model, explaining the impact of environmental models, and differentiating careers in which 3D modeling skills could be applied.

Graphic Design

Design Industry & Adobe Creative Suite

Students will demonstrate an understanding of the design industry and how to use Adobe Creative Suite by explaining design industry project management, how to use Adobe Creative Suites, and how to make content decisions regarding digital designs.

Digital Graphics & Illustrations

Students will demonstrate an understanding of digital graphics and illustrations by defining graphic design terms, explaining visual tools to create designs and how to use them, and describing color theory.

Adobe Illustrator

Students will demonstrate an understanding of Adobe Illustrator by describing its functions, explaining the user interface and tools, and defining layers and how they are best used.

Creating, Exporting & Publishing

Students will demonstrate an understanding of how to create, export, and publish a digital project using Adobe Illustrator by explaining the use of vectors and shapes, identifying and describing editing tools, and explaining the exporting process.

Design Industry

Students will demonstrate an understanding of the digital design industry and its tools by explaining what Adobe Creative Suite encompasses, summarizing project management, defining copyrights and describing how visuals are used in Adobe InDesign.

InDesign Interface

Students will demonstrate an understanding of InDesign interface and applications by explaining the creation process, editing functions, and applying visual design applications to a digital design.

Organizing, Creating & Modifying Visual Elements

Students will demonstrate an understanding of how to organize, create, and modify visual elements in InDesign by explaining the layers and frames functions and evaluating the use of layers, frames and characters effects on the final digital graphic.

Editing Visual Elements

Students will demonstrate an understanding of how to edit visual elements in InDesign by using the editing tools, applying the interactive elements, and reviewing and publishing a graphic design.

Art History

Critiquing Art

Students will demonstrate an understanding of critiquing art by explaining the four steps in the critiquing process, critique pieces of art, and explain the purpose of critiquing a piece of art.

Prehistoric and Ancient Art

Students will demonstrate an understanding of Prehistoric Art and Ancient Art by analyzing and comparing the different characteristics of Prehistoric Art and Ancient Art, and explain how their culture impacted their artwork.

Modern Art

Students will demonstrate an understanding of modern art by analyzing how current events and technology inspired Modern Art such as as Realism, Impressionism, and Post Impressionism, and how these movements influenced later art styles and movements.

Ancient Roman, Early Christian and Medieval Art

Students will demonstrate an understanding of Ancient Roman, Early Christian and Medieval Art by analyzing and explaining the characteristics of each era and examining the relationship between the art and culture of an era.

The Renaissance

Students will demonstrate an understanding of The Renaissance by explaining the different characteristics and social influences in this era’s artwork while analyzing a variety of Renaissance artist’s artwork.

Art of the Americas

Students will demonstrate an understanding of Art in the Americas by comparing and contrasting the characteristics of the different civilizations artwork while explaining the influences and variety of techniques used by each civilization.

From the Baroque to the Romantics

Students will demonstrate an understanding of Baroque art to the Romantics art by explaining the social influences and characteristics of each period and analyzing their artwork.

African Art and Oceanic Art

Students will demonstrate an understanding of African Art and Oceanic Art by explaining how the natural and social world influenced their art by examining, identifying characteristics of, and discussing art from Africa and Oceanic cultures

Pictorial Art

Line Drawings

Students will demonstrate an understanding of the different types of line drawings by explaining the purpose of each type and drawing an item using each type.

Perspective Drawings

Students will demonstrate an understanding of perspective drawings by explaining the difference between a one-point and two-point perspective drawing and creating shaded, one-point and two-point perspective drawings.

Still Life Drawings

Students will demonstrate an understanding of still life drawings by explaining the use of space and the role of proportion and creating a properly shaded illustration of a still life.

Surrealism

Students will demonstrate an understanding of surrealism by explaining the characteristics of surrealism, analyzing different surrealist artists’ artwork, and creating their own surreal drawing.

Self-Portrait

Students will demonstrate an understanding of self-portrait drawings by examining and explaining the proportions of the human head and creating their own self-portrait.

Pointillism

Students will demonstrate an understanding of pointillism by explaining the techniques for creating a variety of values in pointillism and using ink to create a pointillism drawing.

Color

Students will demonstrate an understanding of using color in their drawings by analyzing the different groups on the color wheel, mixing colors to create desired colors, and using colored pencils in a three-stage drawing.

Figure Drawing

Students will demonstrate an understanding of figure drawing by examining and explaining the proportions of the human body and using charcoal to create their own figure drawing.

Cartooning

Students will demonstrate an understanding of cartooning by explaining common characteristics of cartoons and applying them to their own cartoon creation.

Color Theory in Landscape Painting

Students will demonstrate an understanding of color theory in landscape painting by explaining the layout of the color wheel, comparing and contrasting a variety of color schemes, mixing colors, and applying color theory to an original landscape painting.

Watercolor

Students will demonstrate an understanding of watercolor by explaining the characteristics of watercolor, and applying watercolor techniques to create a painting.

Pop Art

Students will demonstrate an understanding of pop art by analyzing a variety of pop art artists’ paintings, explaining the characteristics of pop art, and creating their own pop art-inspired painting.

Filmmaking

Filmmaking Storytelling

Students will demonstrate an understanding of storytelling in filmmaking by explaining story structure, visual language, and the 3-basic shot sizes of filmmaking and by creating short and visual stories.

Filmmaking Editing

Students will demonstrate an understanding of editing in filmmaking by using Adobe Workspace to use create and edit a story.

Cinematography

Students will demonstrate an understanding of filmmaking cinematography by explaining shooting basics, basic set safety measures, and how to use cinematography settings and sound effectively.

Filmmaking Production & Dialogue

Students will demonstrate an understanding of filmmaking production & dialogue by explaining the pre-production process, shooting process, and writing a dialogue scene.

Music

Elements of Music: Getting to Know the Guitar

Students will demonstrate an understanding of guitar terminology and technique by examining music terminology as it relates to guitar, learning to properly hold and tune a guitar, and mastering basic right or left-hand fingering techniques.

Making Music on the Guitar

Students will demonstrate an understanding of making music on the guitar by mastering chords, synchronizing hands, learning to read guitar tablature, and exploring improvisation techniques.

Chord Accompaniment

Students will demonstrate an understanding of chord accompaniment by learning chord progressions and demonstrating proper major and minor chord strumming, plucking and chord changes while playing the guitar.

Reading Guitar Music: Treble Strings

Students will demonstrate an understanding of how to read standard music notation by learning the notes on each string, how to play treble notes, to read rests and rhythm patterns, and to play music on the guitar.

Music Theory: Music Composition Basics

Students will demonstrate an understanding of Music composition by examining half and whole-step intervals, sharps and flats, and major scales.

Reading Guitar Music: Bass Strings

Students will demonstrate an understanding of how to read standard music notation by learning how to play bass notes, read rests and rhythm patterns, and play music on the guitar.

Guitar Ensembles, Chords, Triads, and The Blues

Students will demonstrate an understanding of guitar ensembles by learning various ensemble types and how to analyze, evaluating musical composition, learning key signatures, and practicing primary chords.

Guitar Music Basics

Students will demonstrate an understanding of guitar music basics by explaining guitar tablature and fretboard diagrams and reading standard notation while playing the guitar.

Making Movable Music

Students will demonstrate an understanding of movable music by playing movable chord progressions, movable pentatonic and blues scales and explaining the intervals, enharmonic notes, and natural intervals that they play.

Chord Skills

Students will demonstrate an understanding of chords by identifying and playing major and minor chords as accompaniment in songs.

Playing Riffs

Students will demonstrate an understanding of strum patterns by Identifying riffs of famous guitarists and playing chords, strum and fingerstyle riffs.

String Instruments

Students will demonstrate an understanding of instrument families by describing the characteristics of instruments in the string family and explaining their pitch ranges.

The Elements of Music and Keyboard Basics

Students will demonstrate an understanding of the elements of music and keyboard basics by defining the basic elements of music, explaining the relationship between time and sound in music, identifying finger numbers as well as different notes and rhythms, and demonstrating how to play a piece of music using the black keys and a variety of dynamics.

Music Notation and the Keyboard

Students will demonstrate an understanding of music notation and the keyboard by describing fundamental concepts of music notation, identifying the location of all the white keys on the keyboard, and playing rhythm studies and melodies as well as a piece of music using note and rest values.

The Basics of Reading Piano Music

Students will demonstrate an understanding of the basics of reading piano music by describing fundamental concepts of the grand staff, explaining steps and skips, identifying changes in pitch, comparing and contrasting dynamic marks, and playing two notes on the piano simultaneously as well as pieces of music that use notes on the treble and bass clef staff.

Music History

Cultural Influences of Jazz and Popular Music

Students will demonstrate an understanding of the cultural influences of jazz and popular music by distinguishing between different sources of American jazz and pop music genres, such as swing, hot jazz, cool jazz and blues, and examining the influences of those genres on American culture and musicians.

Early Music of the Western World: Ancient and Renaissance

Students will demonstrate an understanding of early music of the Western world, including Ancient and Renaissance, by applying knowledge this music to describe characteristics of music and musicians that represent this period of music.

Foundations of Music

Students will demonstrate an understanding of the foundations of music by analyzing music, with and without aural stimulus, to identify melody, harmony, rhythm, dynamics and form.

Later Music of the Western World: Baroque, Classical Era and Romantic Period of Music

Students will demonstrate an understanding of later music of the Western world including Baroque, Classical Era and Romantic Period by describing characteristics of music and musicians that represent these periods and types of music.

Societal Implications of Music of the Western World

Students will demonstrate an understanding of societal implications of music of the Western world by explaining the evolution of music and interpreting its implications for society.

Guitar in American Music

Students will demonstrate an understanding of various music styles by learning about the techniques of bluegrass, rock and jazz music and their influences in American society.

Theater

Understanding Theater

Students will demonstrate an understanding of the impact of religion, myth and philosophy on theater by analyzing the influences that religion, myth & philosophy play in the development of theater.

Theater and Film History, Theory & Criticism

Students will demonstrate an understanding of film and theater history, drama theory, and film/theater criticism by examining the similarities and differences between film and theater over time.

Theater and Film Genres

Students will demonstrate an understanding of film and theater genres by explaining the differences between drama and tragedy; the history, elements and purposes of comedy, musical and experimental theater; and the elements and purposes of comedy, adventure and fantasy film.

Writing the Script

Students will demonstrate an understanding of film screenplays and theater scripts by explaining the components and structure of scripts and screenplays as they contribute to the development of storylines.

Acting the Part

Students will demonstrate an understanding of the acting process from audition to performance by describing different acting styles used for stage and for screen.

Directing and Preserving Film and Theatrical Performances

Students will demonstrate an understanding of directing and preserving film and theatrical performances by examining and explaining the directing process for films, the directing process for theater, and the role and mechanisms of recognition in both film and theater.

Script Development Process

Students will demonstrate an understanding of the script development process by applying prewriting techniques, developing an elevator pitch, and using the parts of a script to develop a short film script.

Pre-Production Process

Students will demonstrate an understanding of the pre-production process in filmmaking by creating a storyboard that includes a variety of planning elements and analyzing camera shots needed for their film.

Production Process

Students will demonstrate an understanding of the production process by developing a shot list, using proper lighting and audio techniques, and following a video production schedule and checklist to film scenes for a short film.

Post-Production Process

Students will demonstrate an understanding of the post-production process by identifying and applying editing techniques, and revising their film into the final cut.

Students will demonstrate an understanding of kitchen tools and safety by explaining basic cooking techniques, food handling and preparation, cleanliness, kitchen safety, and first aid.

Students will demonstrate an understanding of the history of the culinary field by exploring cooking methods throughout the ages, modern food science, cultures’ role in cuisines, and the history and role of the Garde Manger.

Budgeting

Students will demonstrate an understanding of budgeting in the culinary field by examining standardization of recipes, cost analysis, weights and measure, and the principles of food preparation.

Students will demonstrate an understanding of the culinary profession by investigating the history of the food service, roles within the kitchen, and various forms of leadership.

Healthy Kitchen & Its Tools

Students will demonstrate an understanding of a healthy kitchen and tools of the trade by investigating food groups, nutritional guidelines, kitchen tools and equipment, and the role of mise en place.

Stocks, Sauces, and Soups

Students will demonstrate an understanding of stocks, sauces, and soups by investigating the five mother sauces, components of stock, classification of soups, and thickening agents.

Students will demonstrate an understanding of the field of baking by investigating baking ingredients, the science of baking, and baking techniques.

Culinary Business and Service

Students will demonstrate an understanding of Culinary Business and Service by investigating the history of the food service industry, styles of food service, managing a business, customer service, and etiquette.

Photography

Camera Anatomy and Function

Students will demonstrate an understanding of basic camera anatomy and function by identifying the parts of a camera and using various camera modes, such as auto, manual, aperture and shutter priority to take original photographs.

History of Photography

Students will demonstrate an understanding of how photography has changed throughout history by analyzing changes in camera technology and how these have impacted photography over time.

The Artistic Process in Digital Photography

Students will demonstrate an understanding of careers in digital photography and the stages of production by identifying jobs associated with digital photography and completing the pre-production, production, and post-production stages for a photoshoot.

Image Editing and Presentation

Students will demonstrate an understanding of image editing and presentation by using a photo editing program to manipulate photographs, planning an exhibit and creating a photography portfolio.

Light and Composition in Photography

Students will demonstrate an understanding of how photographers use light and composition in a photograph by explaining how light is used in photography, explaining various composition guidelines, and taking original photographs that use various types of light and compositions.

Style and Genre

Students will demonstrate an understanding of style and genre in photography by comparing and contrasting stylistic characteristics of different genres of photography.
